Lao Trekking Day 2

9/29/2006

This morning we spent a lot of time exploring the Ban Nalan village. The picture above is of my group and some of the villagers who helped us with the accommodations and cooking. There were all sorts of pigs, cows, ducks, dogs, etc. just wandering around the village. I even saw 2 monkeys that were kept as pets attached to a house by a leash. We went to the deputy chief's house, and he showed us some of the tools they use to catch fish and other animals. The use of guns was banned in that area, and the tools they used were very basic yet clever. After leaving the village, we trekked for about 5 or 6 hours. It was good exercise had nice scenery. I just had to pay attention to keep the leeches from getting me.
